When you want to give up
take a step back
Recently I mentioned how if things aren’t working, you’ve got to change them.
But how about when you’re making changes, and things still aren’t working…up until the point where you start thinking about quitting?
I’ve experienced this on and off in my own business journey, and even last week was in a down and discouraged mindset.
It’s always so much easier to throw in the towel and quit, but what can you do when you know you don’t actually want to quit?
Take a step back.
I don’t mean to lose your momentum or shut down the systems you’ve got running in your business.
What I mean is:
It’s incredibly easy to only be focused in on your business and journey, that you begin to neglect the other areas of life.
You’re so hyper-focused on seeing and experiencing success that when it doesn’t come instantly, it’s absolutely crushing.
You see the success of those around you and feel like you’re falling behind and can’t catch up.
You’re not making money, and can’t see how to get out of your situation.
You’re failing…to now you’re a full blown failure.
Absolutely terrible to experience and live through, right?
I’ve realized that when I come to this, I need to take a step back from my business.
Here’s what this looks like:
+Instead of working 7 days a week, I should have at least one day where I don’t have to open up my computer and work on FP content, creation, and planning.
+I should be getting back to playing the piano, songwriting, and reading in my spare time without feeling like I’m wasting time.
+I should try and look forward to outings with other people, rather than be glad I can stay at home and be perfectly content with it. (Still need to work on this one…a lot.)
Taking a step back will look different for each person, but I would encourage you to do so if this comes up in your business.
Here’s what you can ask yourself:
How much have I been working? Is it a healthy amount?
Am I doing the hobbies and extracurriculars that I used to?
What am I doing for fun, besides working on my business?
Am I taking care of my health by eating healthy, getting ample sleep, and exercising?
Who is in my social circle? Have I kept in contact with them? Have I scheduled a time to talk and meet up with them?
These are great to gauge where you’re at and can be used to help you take a step back.
