San Francisco to New York

Want to join me?

This past week I read through Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne.

I’m not one to have the desire to travel the world, but this story gets you thinking.

By the end of the book I found myself wanting to take a train ride from San Francisco to New York as Mr. Phileas Fogg does in the story.

I even looked up ticket prices and departure dates.

Why?

Because the destination is not actually important.

The destination itself will only let you down if you put all of your hope in it.

However, the journey to get there is where you learn the most.

It’s where you grow, you accomplish things you never could have, and you all around transform your life.

And don’t forget:

You can’t get to the destination without the journey.

These days though, we all want to skip the journey and expedite our way to the destination.

Right?

Get the good things, the good life, without going through all that’s needed to get there.

It’s hard to avoid falling into this.

That’s why I’m grateful for books such as this one.

You can quickly fly from San Francisco to New York in around 7 hours by plane, and solely arrive for the destination.

Or.

You can ride from San Francisco to New York in around 79 hours by train, and not only arrive at the destination, but have an incredible and life changing journey on the way.

It’ll be up to you in deciding how you want to live your life and where you want to place your focus.

But might I suggest you take time to not only plan out your destinations in life, but to truly enjoy the adventure and journey each one brings.

Michael

PS. It’s looking like my own journey will be having some big changes coming up. I’ll share more next week…And no, it’s not anything about taking a train ride across the country. But sounds like fun, right?
