Since January I’ve been actively job searching and trying to find a new career path.

The pressure and desire to head towards marriage, kids, a house, etc. all lighting a strong flame underneath me.

In my ideal world, my next career would combine:

  1. Hybrid operations/chief of staff role at a startup and

  2. Teaching 1-2 classes at the school

→ I actually almost accomplished this, too!

In April I had a 3-Day work trial with an SF startup where I was applying to be their chief of staff and operations lead.

It was a ton of fun and I had such a blast working with this pre-seed startup and small team.

If this had worked out, it would’ve allowed for me to use my former experience and passions within startups along with the calling to teach the next generations at the school.

However, even with doing my very best and being proud of my work, the startup went with someone else.

As of today and right now, it’s almost certain that I’ll be a full-time teacher next year.

I’ll have a salary higher than I’ve received in my career thus far, but it will sadly not be enough to hit my goals.

Does this mean I need to have a second job during the school year? Will that even be possible? Can I stay more than this next year in teaching?

Life has been tough due to these big decisions and questions—along with trying to figure out how I’ll survive the next year and even feeling like I’ve failed since I cannot find a job that has a strong career path forward.

But. After a few dreary days, I got to planning out what I could do projects-wise to possibly make some supplemental income.

↓ That’s what I’ll share with you now ↓

My two main projects I’m building this summer:

+ Math Adventures: Space Cadet: This is math activity storybook where students will be reading a fun space story and using math to decode mysteries and push the story forward.

It comes out of my year of teaching math and seeing that in order to succeed in math, kids need it to be fun, engaging, and filled with tons of practice.

+Call Me Mister Podcast: a new podcast featuring honest conversations with Christian men in education.

Through stories of career, calling, family, leadership, and faith, we explore what it really looks like to build a meaningful and sustainable life while serving the next generation.

I’m on PodMatch to get some of the first interviews going, but if you know of any Christian Men working in Education, please send them my way.

You can listen to the first introductory episode I made, as it gives great context to why I’m creating a show such as this.

While I’m still working through this difficult summer and trying to see what the Lord is doing and has planned, I’m confident that He will lead me forward as intended.

Last summer’s verse I memorized also still ringing true this summer:

“A man’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand his own way?” Proverbs 20:24
